Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano believes that efficient infrastructure plays a vital role towards sustainable socio-economic growth, thus, creating livelihood opportunities, better transportation accessibility encourages investors from neighboring provinces, and provides refuge in times of weather disturbances and calamities. Through the Provincial Engineer’s Office and the Provincial Equipment Pool Office, implemented various infrastructure projects were concreting Barangay roads, construction of Multi-Purpose halls, installation of drainage canal covers, improvement of PGO satellite office of San Jose including power supply and construction water supply systems. Efforts had been directed to improve the provincial road network, and enhancing accessibility through better infrastructure, specifically in improving the quality and capacity of roads to accelerate growth in the rural areas. Provisions of basic services such as health, food and nutrition, education, housing, and livelihood opportunities for the welfare of the Indigenous People were given priority through programs under Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) interventions, and the participation of the provincial government to E-CLIP and ELCAC activities. Governor Gadiano is known for his soft spot for the Katutubong Mangyan Tribe in the province (the Philippine ethnic group living in Mindoro Island).
Through Indigenous People Welfare Program, the provincial government was able to create different ventures to promote inclusivity and reach them out such as construction/renovation of the water system in IP communities, rice seeds varieties, and vegetable seeds to IPs in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), and Mangyan Day celebration. Thousands of IP families in the province were provided with various vegetable seeds. This activity intends to encourage the beneficiaries to produce food/vegetables for their respective families’ consumption and to provide additional income from the excess yield/produce thereby reducing food shortage and hunger in IP communities.
