Tourism is an industry that has the potential to be an engine of growth for any province and Governor Ed strongly believes that Occidental Mindoro offers a vast potential for sustainable tourism.
Being home to the second-largest contiguous coral reef in the world- Apo Reef, the province has a wide array of tourist spots from marine biodiversity to mountain ranges to unspoiled white beaches and more.
With the collaborative efforts of the Department of Tourism – MIMAROPA, Provincial Tourism Office, Municipal Tourism Officers, and with the technical assistance of the Legal Office and the PIATF in drafting and aligning the guidelines to the national policies of the DILG and DOH, the province of Occidental Mindoro has finally re- opened its borders for domestic and international tourist on March 28, 2022, by the virtue of Executive Order No. 14, series of 2022, “Guidelines and Protocols for the Reopening of Tourism Destinations for Local, Domestic, and Foreign Tourists in the Province of Occidental Mindoro” signed by the Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano.
After the declaration of the reopening, the province started to record a fair number of tourist arrival and the number gradually increases each month. As of December 2022, we have recorded a total of 294,092 tourist arrivals in our province based on the tourLISTA App of the DOT – MIMAROPA. Since re-opening of tourism, our tourist arrivals have gradually paced back to normal if we compared this to the pre-pandemic tourist arrivals in 2019 where we have generated 279,733.
Among many other devastating effects of COVID-19 in general, this pandemic has significantly impacted the tourism industry of the province.
