Agriculture serves as the driving force behind the economy of Mindoro Occidental. Among the various agricultural pursuits, rice farming stands out as the most prominent, making the province of the foremost producer of palay in Regions IV-A and IV-B. Mindoro Occidental is recognized as one of the Philippines. “Its primary agricultural outputs hubs encompass rice, corn, coconut, tabacco, garlic, onions, mangoes, bananas, melons, and peanuts. In addition to agriculture, the region boasts a vibrant fisheries industry, yielding products such as salth, milkfish, prawns, tuna, octopus, and seaweeds.


Internationally renowned for its biodiversity, the island of Mindoro holds significant potential for eco-tourism. Notably, the province hosts two acclaimed national parks: the Apo Reef Marine National Park, situated in Sablayan, stands as the largest reef in the Philippines and the second largest globally, while the Mt. Iglit-Baco National Park, initially designated as the Tamaraw Reservation and Bird Sanctuary in November 1970, spans across the Municipalities of Sablayan, Calintaan, Rizal, and San Jose.

In tandem with its promotional activities, LEDIPD has also been engaged in research initiatives aimed at further understanding and enhancing the economic landscape of Occidental Mindoro. One notable accomplishment in this regard is the drafting of the Occidental Mindoro Investment Profile, which serves as a valuable resource for potential investors and stakeholders interested in the province’s economic opportunities.
Through its multifaceted approach, LEDIPD, under the guidance of the Office of Provincial Administrator, continues to play a pivotal role in driving economic development and supporting the growth of MSMEs in Occidental Mindoro.
In 2023, the Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro achieved significant advances in environmental protection and conservation through its core programs under the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO). With a focus on natural resources, solid waste, and mineral management, the government successfully enacted policies and initiatives that fostered sustainable practices and safeguarded the province’s ecological balance. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, these programs not only addressed immediate environmental concerns but also laid the groundwork for a greener and healthier future for Occidental Mindoro.


As one of the province’s efforts to protect and conserve its environment and natural resources, the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP), Monitoring/Supervising of Eco- the Provincial Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP), Monitoring/Supervising of Eco-Friendly Provincial Nursery and AgroForestry Project continues its implementation within the province.


PGOM continues the active participation in the implementation of the DENR River Restoration in Occidental Mindoro thru Dredging Activities thru DENR Administrative Order No. 2020-12 with its subject Rationalizing Dredging Activities in Heavily Silted River Channels within the Province of Occidental Mindoro pursuant to the DENR-DPWH-DILG-DOTC Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, Series of 2019 whereas Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano was appointed as the Chairman of the Inter-Agency Committee.


The Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) persisted in executing the Conservation Rehabilitation of Aquatic for Livelihood Sustainability Program. Notable activities included Open Water Dive Training, Reef Check Assessment, a Symposium on Environmental Protection and Conservation, Reef Clean Up/SCUBAsurero/Crown of Thorns Collection, as well as a Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management Planning Workshop and the implementation of practices (SEA-KAP) Survey.


The Provincial Government of Occidental Mindoro through the leadership of Governor Eduardo B. Gadiano achieved significant milestones in the education sector in 2023 through various programs administered by the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO). These included the Provincial Educational Assistance Program, aid for medical students, support for women’s education through the Tulong sa Pagsulong ng Edukasyon Para sa Kababaihan Program, funding for youth organizations and activities, provision of supplemental learning matarials annual celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan and the OKSIMIN Youth Leadership initiative. These initiatives collectively contributed to advancing educational opportunities and youth development throughout the province, marking a notable accomplistment for Occidental Mindoro’s provincial government.

A Local School Board (LSB) is a unique entity established by Republic Act No. 7160, commonly referred to as the Local Government Code of 1991 (LGC 91). Its Primary responsibility is to distribute the Special Education Fund (SEF), to address the additional requirements of the local public school system. Throughout 2023, the Provincial School Board conducted twelve (12) Regular Monthly Meetings and approved 11 resolutions.
